CrossFit – what did I get myself into?

Ok, y’all know me. I’m ALL OVER the place with my fitness routine. I’ll be the first to admit that I stink at sticking to one thing. For me to stick to a workout routine, it has to be convenient, fun and I have to see results. Honestly, the only workout I truly stuck to in the past few years was running when I was training for my first half marathon. I  think the only reason I did it was to prove to people I could. Probably not the best reason, but it motivated me!

I think when I started MeganPaleo (the name before SecondHeartPaleo was born), I was running and working out like once a month. Then, I moved to Bar Method, which I loved but couldn’t force myself to stick with it. I then moved to Camp Gladiator, which I LOVED and would still be doing it if I hadn’t moved. THEN I moved to my fake Peloton set-up. which I hope to get back into when we finish unpacking the house…but now I moved to the most paleo thing I could do.

I, Megan, have started CrossFit. Y’all. I don’t even know who I am anymore. CrossFit?! I am the farthest thing from what you think of when you think of CrossFit, but so far – I am loving it. I want to share with y’all what I’ve learned and whatnot – just in case you’re debating starting CrossFit or learning more.

First, everyone is so nice. I had a fear that I’d be super intimidated and it’d be a bunch of ripped people who push themselves too hard and get hurt all the time. Not true at all. Everyone has been absolutely great. This obviously can be different depending on where you go, but I was pleasantly surprised. I met two super sweet girls the first day and that really helped sway my decision to sign up.

Second, I’m really appreciative of the On-Ramp classes. I was super worried about “being thrown into the deep end” when it came to CrossFit. I had no idea how to properly lift weights, etc. When you sign up for CrossFit, your first classes will be one-on-one (or small groups) called on-ramp. During these classes, you’ll learn all the proper ways to squat, do deadlifts, pull-ups, etc. I have learned so much and look forward to applying what I’ve learned in class.

Lastly, I’ve learned that I’m stronger than I realize. Am I sore AF after class? Yes. But did I do it the workout to the best of my ability? YUP! It’s so rewarding to work my butt off for an hour and feel sore the next day.

So if you’re thinking about CrossFit, find a local place and inquire about a free session. You might hate it – BUT you might love it. I’ve signed up for three months…so I’ll at least be pushing myself to stick with it for that long. I’ll keep y’all posted on how it goes. Let me know if you do CrossFit and how you got started?
